SIMI VALLEY, CALIFORNIA (July 29, 2017) – 24-year-old Daniel Vaca was involved in a multi-vehicle fatality on Highway 118 west of Stearns Street, early Saturday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol. (map)
The incident was reported at approximately 4:10 a.m. Vaca was traveling westbound on Highway 118 in a silver Acura at a high rate of speed when he rear-ended a black Toyota Camry. The impact caused the Acura to overturn and land on its roof, according to CHP.
A witness, later identified as 63-year-old Christopher Lombard, saw the accident as he was traveling eastbound on Highway 118. Lombard parked his vehicle in the center divider and crossed over to aid Vaca.
Shortly after, a Ford Fusion traveling westbound on Highway 118 collided into Vaca’s vehicle as well as Vaca and Lombard. Both Vaca and Lombard were pronounced dead at the scene.
The 22-year-old driver of the Ford Fusion sustained injuries. However, the severity of those injuries were unknown. The driver of the Toyota Camry, identified as a 38-year-old male, was not injured.
