FONTANA, CALIFORNIA (August 4, 2017) – 59-year-old Eva Velasquez was involved in a multi-vehicle collision at the intersection of Randall and Cypress Avenues Friday evening, according to the Fontana Police Department. (map)
The accident occurred at approximately 7:42 p.m. a juvenile driver of a 2004 Infiniti traveling westbound on Randal Avenue failed to stop at a stop sign while approaching Cypress Avenue. The Infiniti hit a 2001 Kia Sportage that continued southbound through the intersection on Cypress Avenue. The Infiniti continued westbound and collided with another vehicle traveling eastbound on Randal Avenue shortly after.
Velasquez was a passenger in one of the vehicles and died as a result of the collision. Several other victims of the crash were injured as well. The driver of the Kia sustained facial injures and was transported to the hospital for treatment. The juvenile driver of the Infiniti sustained leg abrasions an transported to the hospital for treatment as well.
An investigation is ongoing to determine if drugs and alcohol were factors in the collision.
