FORT DODGE: Tracie Guthrie and Three Children Injured in Train Accident

“Investigation Ongoing”

FORT DODGE, IOWA (June 24, 2017) – A woman and three children were injured after their vehicle was struck by a train on Saturday, according to a local news source. (map)

The accident happened around 3:30 pm in the 2100 block of Racine Avenue. 38 year old Tracie Guthrie and three children were in an SUV heading down a gravel road when they were struck by an oncoming train from the Canadian National Railroad.

Two of the children, ages 9 and 10, were airlifted to a nearby hospital, and Guthrie and the 8 year old were taken to another hospital with non life threatening injuries. The accident remains under investigation, however initial reports indicate the crossing is not equipped with crossing arms or lights, only signs to warn drivers of the crossing.

“Almost one death or injury per day occurs on the rail system in the United States. Many of these tragic deaths are avoidable, the rail system is antiquated and needs a complete overhaul to ensure the safety of pedestrians, drivers, and train passengers,” said the attorneys from West Alliance Injury Lawyers.
