BUCKEYE, ARIZONA (June 27, 2017) – Two people were killed on Tuesday after a small plane crashed in the Gila Bend Mountains. (map)
The small plane, described as a two passenger Vans RV-7, took off from the Buckeye Airport around 8:00 am. The plane was carrying two people, one of whom was identified as Buckeye City Airport Coordinator John McMahon. The plane did not return when scheduled, and a search began almost immediately. The plane was located just before 5 pm in a field in the Gila Ben Mountains.
John McMahon and the other occupant of the plane were both tragically killed in the crash. It is unknown which of the two was piloting the plane at the time. The accident remains under investigation by the FAA and the NTSB to determine what happened in the tragic accident.
