LONGMONT: One Killed after Street Sweeper Runs Red Light on US 287

LONGMONT, COLORADO (June 26, 2017) – A passenger was killed after a street sweeper reportedly ran a red light and crashed into a car on US 287, according to a local news source. (map)

The accident happened around 6:30 am on the southbound side of US 287 near Highway 52 (Mineral Road). A street sweeper driven by 30 year old Keith Simmons reportedly ran a red light and crashed into a gold Toyota Highlander on the passenger side.

The passenger in the vehicle was tragically killed as a result of the accident. The driver of the Highlander was injured and rushed to a nearby hospital. Keith Simmons did not sustain injuries, and is being interviewed by investigators at this time. Charges are reportedly pending against the 30 year old, who was driving for Hartco Inc at the time of the accident. The accident remains under open investigation.
