“Deadly Train Collision”
PANA, ILLINOIS (June 14, 2017) – Mary Castle, an 89 year old woman, was sadly killed in a train accident on Wednesday evening near Route 16, according to a local news source. (map)
Mary Castle was among five people inside a van returning from an ice cream social on Wednesday evening. Just before 7 pm, the van attempted to cross the railroad tracks on County Road 1800, near Route 16. The van was subsequently struck by a freight train on the driver’s side of the door.
Mary Castle was sadly killed in the accident. Three of the five people on board were pronounced dead at the scene, and two others were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries a short time later. The other people inside the vehicle have been identified as 87 year old Mary Pugsley, 77 year old Nell Castle, 79 year old Herbert Castle, and 89 year old John Castle. The accident remains under investigation to determine cause and liability at this time.
