NEW HOPE, MINNESOTA (September 6, 2017) – At least one person was killed on Wednesday evening in a multi car crash on Highway 169, according to a local news source. (map)
The accident happened around 5:30 pm on the northbound side of Highway 169 near Rockford Road, when a semi truck traveling in the left lane struck a sedan from behind. The sedan was pushed into a second sedan, which rear ended a silver Honda Odyssey minivan. The first sedan ended up in a ditch on the right side of the highway, and the second sedan and the minivan came to a rest in the right lane. The semi then struck a third sedan, and a second minivan.
22 year old Kathryn Burkey was rushed to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead as a result of the accident. Injured in the accident were 22 year old Eyni Gaal, 21 year old Fowzio Mohyadiin, Raymond Ranney, and 22 year old Brett Leistico.
The involved cars were reportedly described as a black Ford Fusion sedan, a black Toyota Sienna minivan, a white sedan, a silver Honda Odyssey minivan, a maroon sedan, and a red semi truck towing a load of gravel or dirt. The investigation into the accident is ongoing, as authorities attempt to determine cause and liability at this time.
