SHAFTER, CALIFORNIA (December 29, 2016) – According to the Shafter Police Department, one person was killed on Thursday in a truck collision on Santa Fe Way and Burbank Street. (map)
CHP Sergeant Randy Milligan reported that a car, driven by Marcelo Diaz, was stuck on the train tracks during a foggy day after the crossing arms went down. A Honda was traveling southbound on Santa Fe Way around 7:30 a.m. when it swerved to the left to avoid hitting the cars. The Honda went into the path of a Ford Excursion SUV that was traveling northbound as the crossing arms rose.
Sergeant Milligan states that the driver of the SUV remained at the scene and cooperated with police.
“Sadly, there are no words that can comfort the victim’s family and friends as they cope with such an incredible loss,” said Attorney West Seegmiller. “The thoughts and prayers of our staff are with them, as well as the young people who were injured, as they try to piece together what happened.”
