The collision occurred at approximately 10:55 a.m. when the driver of a 2010 Freightliner truck, loaded with lumber, failed to stop for roadwork causing it to crash into a Ford F-450 truck. The freightliner did not see the traffic stop ahead and was unable to stop safely in the westbound lane, and ended up turning into the eastbound lane, coming directly into the eastbound path of the F450 truck. Both vehicles struck head-on as a result, according to the CHP.

The F450 driver was 38-year-old Donald Samson. Samson had to be transported via air ambulance and had to be treated for injuries he sustained. The driver of the freightliner was identified as 35-year-old Mel Goetting. Goetting sustained no injuries.
